Earthquakes. Floods. Cancer. Pandemics. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to who is affected.

All of this suffering feels so senseless and unfair.

Is God punishing us? Why does he want to hurt us?
Tragic events and personal suffering may make you question God’s character.
But the truth is, the God of the Bible wants to save us, not hurt us.
For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord GOD; so turn, and live.
Ezekiel 18:32

The source of suffering

You see, God created us to be in perfect relationship with him. But in the beginning the first man and woman destroyed that relationship by rejecting God and his good way.

This brought brokenness into all relationships and the whole world.
Suffering is a natural consequence of that brokenness.
Since then, even the best of us choose our own way, turning away from our Creator and the life he gives.
But, in his love, God gives us this invitation:

Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord.
Acts 3:19-20

The Source of Life

While we live in this broken world we cannot escape all suffering. But God does not want punishment for us.

He promises life to those who choose to turn to him – life forever with him in a world where there is no suffering, pain, or death.
